TLAA joins forces with the OCAA

With the blessing and encouragement of His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta, we are pleased to announce that The Liturgical Arts Academy has become a division of the Orthodox Christian Academy of Atlanta, a 501(c)3 organization. The OCAA’s mission is to foster dialogue between the Orthodox Church and contemporary society through conferences, courses, and curricula at the Diakonia Retreat Center in Salem, South Carolina.

The Liturgical Arts Academy was formed under the auspices of St. Philothea Greek Orthodox Church in Watkinsville, GA, the parish home of Fr. Anthony and Presvytera Christine Salzman, who founded TLAA along with Dr. Constantine Kokenes. Even in its first year, TLAA attracted students of iconography and Byzantine chant from across the country, and its reach has only grown with each passing year. It is fitting that TLAA be recognized as a separate entity from the local parish, as it has truly become a national Orthodox ministry.

The Orthodox Christian Academy of Atlanta was formed in 2019 and is a appropriate “home” for TLAA, as the Academy fits squarely within the OCAA’s mission. We are thankful for our new partners in the OCAA, and ask God’s blessings on our continued efforts to advance the liturgical arts of iconography and Byzantine chant in the Orthodox Church in the United States.
